Nano 2GB stopped working with new builds

McShlain:
Hi,

I've been using rockbox for more than a year now, and It worked perfectly and yesterday i decided
that it's time to update the version since almost a year has passed since I last updated the build.
I deleted the .rockbox directory from my iPod downloaded the newest realease (2008-01-23) and unzipped it on my Ipod and now when I start my ipod every time i try and play a song i get a "codec failure" instead.
I tried an old build from 2007-12-24 and still the same problem...

I have no idea what to do and I really don't want to go back to using iTunes, plus I have no idea
what build I had before, only that it's about a year old.

please help :-/

P.S. I've tried playing songs from file view and Database view so the data base doesn't seem like my problem...

It seems pretty likely that you need to upgrade to the newest bootloader. Have a look at the beginning of the manual for instructions.

McShlain:
I have no problem booting so it seems like it's not a related problem...
I'll try though

bascule:
The point is that a more recent build may rely on the bootloader to do certain things that an older bootloader does not do, so the latest build always requires the latest bootloader.

AlexP:
The bootloader sets up the hardware when you turn on the player.  If the hardware is not set up as the build expects, it can cause problems.  Therefore an old bootloader + a new build can indeed cause the problems you are seeing.
