Ipod click wheel noise in 5.5 gen (or any applicable)
DancemasterGlenn:
Okay, I specifically remember there being some sort of thread about this, and I read it at some point, but now I can't for the life of me find it... I searched a bunch of terms and then gave up, so here's my new, unnecessary thread. Sorry...
I tried out the new click noise implemented in the recent SVN, and thought it was a pretty cool idea. However, having the click noise in my headphones, while helpful in certain situations, isn't exactly what I'm looking for... I'd rather have it come from that little speaker in the ipod that is used in the apple firmware.
Of course, I'm almost positive that no one has figured out how to harness this speaker, or we would probably have an option for this internal click already. I was just looking for confirmation of this fact, and maybe just throwing out this question: does anyone else think this would be a nice enough feature to have anyone willing spend some time looking at? And also, is work being done already that I simply wasn't able to find?
Thanks for taking the time to read, hope to hear from anyone, even if it's just to tell me not to hold my breath.
GodEater:
There's a patch in the tracker which uses the "speaker" in the ipod (hint: search for 'piezo' in flyspray).
The problem is of course that only iPods have this speaker - no other Rockbox target has it - which is why the solution of playing clicks through the headphones was chosen.
DancemasterGlenn:
That's so weird... I swear I clicked "patches" the other day and looked through all 14 pages, not seeing this. Maybe I skimmed over this because I didn't recognize the word "piezo".
So I'm assuming this didn't get picked up by the actual builds because all versions of rockbox are supposed to have the same features, more or less? I can definitely see the point in that, it's just too bad because it's such a quirky, tiny feature that I like for some reason. But I guess that's why it's a patch, eh? I hope someone will keep it running, since it looks like no one has updated it in a while. Maybe no one else knew to search for "piezo" either, heh.
Thanks for the reply, GodEater!
Llorean:
No, we accept hardware specific features.
The problem is most likely that the patch just isn't "done" yet. It's not integrated well, or maybe it doesn't meet the guidelines, or maybe it just isn't done in the right way. People were more interested in working on the feature that's more useful to a wider range of people. If someone finds out what's keeping that patch out, and then fixes it, it can get included.
DancemasterGlenn:
Cool, I hope that does happen eventually. Seems silly to be attached to something as meaningless as a click, but I've always enjoyed that sound.
