FIXED: Gapless playback on ipod 3G

(1/1)

MrBlitz:
Hi all

I hope this is the right forum to post this.

I have a 3g Ipod 20G running Rockbox R16110-080119. Newer builds (as of the date of posting) don't work for me.

In the beginning, some tracks (apple lossless) would playback gaplessly, but now that has completely disappeared. All tracks have gaps in them. I have tried MP3 encoded with the latest version of LAME included with CDex, ogg files, mp3 ripped with itunes (with properties set to gapless and without), and aac and lossless (both again set to gapless and without) but with no success.

The settings on the rockbox install are as per default.

What I have noticed is that when the end of the track is reached, the hdd spins up and the activity icon appears, but it seems to me as if this happens too late, and the buffer runs out before the hdd is up to speed and the required info has been found.

Is this a rockbox problem, or is my hdd getting on a bit?

Thanks in advance

Lear:
Tried increasing Settings > General Settings > Playback > Anti-Skip Buffer a little? 15 - 30 seconds should be enough.

Llorean:
Rockbox should not spin the disk every track. It spins the disk approximately every 27MB or so (depending on your player, for example 16MB and 64MB RAM players will spin up at nearer numbers to either of those).

MrBlitz:

I tried adjusting the anti-skip buffer, but to no avail.

And yes, the disk was spinning up at the end of each track.

But I changed to the January 2 2008 firmware, (r15984-080102) and it is fixed now.

All files and formats I mentioned play gaplessly, except mp3 encoded with itunes 7.6, which has the slightest little pause.
