"USB Bootloader Mode" - Help
« on: January 19, 2008, 08:03:25 PM »
When I connect the USB cable to my player a white screen that says "USB Bootloader Mode" appears. After I disconnect my player and disconnect the cable, the screen goes white and the player will not turn off, and I have to toggle the battery switch to do anything.

I did get the Rockbox USB mode screen once (with the USB icon) and I didn't have any problems.

How can I fix this?

Yep but not to worry, and please do not double post.

You don't mention what player you have, but seeing as I moved it from the Gigabeat installation forum, I'm guessing a Gigabeat F?

Yes.

I just did a search through the forums and found that it is recommended to boot rockbox THEN plug in the USB cable.

I'll just do that from now on.

Yes, there is sometimes something a little odd about the gigabeat bootloader USB mode (or rather exiting it).

After doing a conversion to use a flash module my GB F locks up in usb mode
and I always have to do the battery thing after removing the cable.
If the player is on and I plug in the usb cable the usb icon appears and it won't
go away after the player is un-mounted and ejected from the computer and the
cable is pulled.  A long press and hold of the power button seems to turn off the
player, but it won't power back up until I do the battery switch thing.

But IIRC the gigabeat rockbox sw has it's own usb stack and isn't actually using
the usb bootloader in flash is it? (isn't the gigabeat the only rockbox player that
doesn't use the OF usb stack?)

Not sure if this is a quirk with the CF2IDE adapter and CF module, along with
commenting out the reset logic in ata.c (like for an ipod mini).  Anybody with an
ipod mini CF conversion and rockbox seeing something like this?

I'm having a similar problem with bootloader USB mode.  when i turn the gigabeat f40 on it always stops in Bootloader USB mode and doesn't respond to anything except the power switch.  without the a/c adapter plugged in it just turns off when the power switch is flipped but when the a/c adaptor is plugged in and the power switch is flipped it boots rockbox and then the usb connection screen appears.  bootloader usb mode appeared for the first time after the gigabeat was plugged into a miswired usb port.  the f40 is essentially useless right now so i'm willing to try anything. btw: the usb connection in Bootloader USB Mode works and i installed the latest bootloader
