Imaging the HDD on iPod 5G video
(1/1)
npaisnel:
Lets see if I am posting this in the correct forum, I looked at the others, but this seemd the most suitable to me.
Before I start mucking around with the iPod too much, I would like to create a disk image of the HDD.
I have used Acronis disk image on other USB plugged Hard drvies, but the iPod is not showing up in it. Â It does appear in explorer, but not in Acronis.
Anyone know what is a good tool to use?
Thanks
Neil
AlexP:
Has your ipod been assigned a drive letter (if you are using Windows)?
If not, you need to put it in disk mode in itunes first I would imagine.
npaisnel:
Yes, windoze and Yes, it has been assigned a drive letter, and is visible in windows. But not in acronis True Image, although other USB drives are visible.
I am totally new to the iPod, bought it second hand two days ago for £20, solely to try out Rock Box.
Never had a iPod or anything similar before.
Not so happy about the photo viewing capabilities, seems very slow, with big files, must have to re size them or something...anyway that is a new topic.
Want to know I can get the HDD back to factory if I reformat it or at least get an image of it before re formatting
GodEater:
This doesn't really seem to be a question for us, but rather for the providers of the software you're trying to use.
If you want to take a complete image of the drive you could just use dd (available for windows and linux).
npaisnel:
Ok, IO see what you are saying, but if you check back to my original post, the question was
Anyone know what is a good tool to use?
The other software does not seem to work, so I was asking if anyone has any idea of what else might be available. It was not a help request regarding the software I have.
So you say dd. Tha would be dd as the Linux /unix command I am assuming. Cheers I will give it a go.
