The obligatory checklist of "Did You":
1) Did you remember to set your Sansa to MSC Mode in the Settings menu?
2) Did you read our fine manual?
If you read in the manual, you can also try installing Rockbox manually. Download Sansapatcher and save it somewhere in your PC, then use it to install the bootloader.

How about checking your network and proxy settings? Â Sounds to me like it's having trouble finding it's way to the interweb.

good news i guess,
i decided to go the ole route and did it manually, every thing works really cool man that rock box might be text based but it really allows for major tweeks of eq and the like, just wish i knew how to toggle between rockbox and the sansa firmware. but i need to read up on that. thanks for the help.
