ipod/rockbox files can't handle ":"?

(1/1)

DancemasterGlenn:
I'm sure this is not the appropriate place to discuss this problem, but here goes...

I have some files, ogg files, that simply would not be copied to my ipod (5.5g 80 gig). it would tell me the tracks had "invalid parameters". After I tried a few things, I found that the colon in the filenames was causing this error. After some more tests, it seems that no music file with a colon in the filename can be copied to my ipod... but I can copy these files to any of my hard drives with no problem. So what exactly is the problem? Is it a limitation in the ipod? In rockbox? If anyone could shed some light on the situation I'd appreciate it.

I can also upload sample files if that would be helpful.

safetydan:
The FAT32 filesystem used on your iPod limits the characters you can use. The : character is one of them. I'm assuming your other hard drives use a different filesystem?

DancemasterGlenn:
Yes, that is the case. Thank you for clearing that up for me.
