Rockbox Media Player?
« on: January 17, 2008, 09:46:43 PM »
Sansa e260
4.0gig

Hello, I am really aggrevated that you provided me this RockBox that currently does not work. Yes, I have the screen up, and games, and everything.. (To make a note. I only have 1 game out of 100.) ... Now. I am really upset of what Rockbox has provided me. A non working program. And now, I can't even access my filesystem.

Why? Now, whenever I plug in my usb, it says "Found New Hardware, RockBox Media player" This has never happened before and why is it happening now.

I tried to turn my Sansa off, and then plug in my usb. But whenever that happens.. It freazes.. and I have to reboot.. every time.

All I want to do is access the filesystem and delete RockBox. Someone, please tell me how to do that.

The Rockbox which is provided works just fine.  The fact that it currently does not work probably has to do with something you did.

Because you installed a new firmware that doesn't fully support USB?  Ignore it, it's normal.

Okay, this is weird.  Do this:

1) Shut the Sansa down completely (hold the power button for up to 20 seconds, if you have headphones on you'll hear a small "click" when it's off).
2) Plug it in to a USB port (not a hub) while it's off and let it boot up.
3) You should see the Sansa logo and then some white text will appear on the screen, then the Sansa firmware should load and say "Connected".

If that isn't what happens, please explain in detail what does, including any text that might appear on the screen after the Sansa logo.

I cant do that either. This is what I do.

1) I shut down the Sansa completly.
2) I plug the cord into the usb port and the Sansa itself
3) I boot up Sansa
4) It should say connected.. Yet it freazes. Shows a bunch of codes.. and then the colors change... and the colors change into black.. and it stays black..

Doesnt work.

How did you install it?  And is there an error message amongst the "bunch of codes"?

No, there is no error message..
Well, not one that I could auctually see. half the screen turns into some sort of codings.. and then the screen sweeps in from top left from different clours... until the whole screen turns black

What install process did you use exactly?
And what do these "codings" say?

This is usually the point when they disapper and never return.  Leaving you wondering both why you bother trying to help and what they did to fix the problem.

It sounds to me like he installed an old bootloader... I seem to recall having some fun visualizations and an inability to get the OF going a while ago...

Lodist.com? The correct answer is "I used the manual, and followed the directions in it." Unofficial directions can very easily tell you the wrong things to do, and cause you problems like this.

Please type out every step, exactly as you did it. "the Rockbox installer" could be one of our official tools (none of them are named that) or some random tool you got from that site.

As well, you haven't said what the "codings" say.

So I need you to answer those two questions, and what happens if you try to boot into the Original Firmware as per the directions in the manual.

The RockBox installer was called Rockbox_Installer_Full.exe. I followed their Directions carefully. And these codings... I dont really think their codings. I think they are there boot up your sansa firmwhere. They are not codings. They load my sansa. and It freazes 3/4 of the way.

He installed some homebrew installer from that site that advertises this:

●Very easy to use Rockbox installer for the e250, e260, e270, and e280 Sansa media players (version 1's).
●Now gives the option of having either Sandisk, or Rockbox firmware as primary (boots first).
●Rockbox comes with Doom including the counterstrike/twilight addons, a number of great looking themes, and much more.
●If, after installing, you decide you don't like Rockbox, just run "uninstall.bat", which is located in the root folder of your Sansa.

---

XxLannoxX, some words of advice:  Don't install random stuff you found on a website and then go complaining somewhere else.  You're original accusations that "you provided me this Rockbox" are totally out of line when you didn't EVEN GET IT FROM THIS WEBSITE.

As I said, THEIR directions might be wrong. They are NOT THE OFFICIAL DIRECTIONS. Which is why I said, very clearly, that I need to know what you did. That program is VERY definitely not the official installer, or not named it at least, and is probably why your device is now corrupted. It's not something we wrote, or something we gave to you, and we are NOT responsible for some stupid program someone else gave you.

I STILL need to also know everything it says on the screen. Especially the last message.

And I still need to know what happens if you try to boot the original firmware, because it will give a different message.

Seriously, if you refuse to answer the questions, we can't help you. We need to know these things.

And I STILL need to know what it says on the screen under both the circumstances I've listed. This is the last time I'm going to ask for it.

Boot it normally, write down what it says. Try to boot into the original firmware like it says in the manual, write down what it says.

If your next post doesn't answer those questions, or ask questions that show you've at least tried it and run into problems, I'm going to decide you're a troll.

I don't know how to make this any clearer: WE CANNOT HELP YOU WITHOUT THIS INFORMATION.
