Driver Help
« on: January 15, 2008, 06:57:38 PM »
I went along with the tutorial on the site, and it went good until here:

3. Select "No, not this time", then...

I don't see this message, I get a popup message that asks whether I want to automatically search for it or choose from a list (neither will let me get the one from the correct folder.

Any help on what to do?

Also, another thing, would saving a backup of all my Sansa files be of any help if it happened to get bricked?

Assuming you've got an E200R and Windows XP, you probably need to choose the driver from the list and then later on chose the "have disk" option or something similar.  The dialog boxes are different depending on what OS you're running, so it may not be exactly the same if you're running some versions of Windows.

Apparently I have an Sansa e260, which I didn't even know existed. I hope it's still compatable  :P

Another thing, I have 2 mass storage devices. Weird.

Also, "have disk" isn't an option, it automatically loads in an inserted disk (which I didn't think was needed..)

How can I find out my OS?

1)  The e200 is definitely compatible but the installation procedure is different.  Read the manual.
2)  The second mass storage device is the SD memory card slot.
3)  Don't worry about the "have disk" business, you won't need it if you really have a plain e200.
4)  You're OS is the Operating System your computer runs (i.e. Windows XP, System 7, DOS).

1. Which manual, the actual e260 manual or a Rock Box manual in which I don't know of?

2. Okay, thanks

3. Okay, thanks

4. Oh, then I have XP

Crap, I think I've actually been using the e200r one.

I can't find the normal e200 one, though, could anyone link to it?

I gotta be more careful now D:

That would be what you are looking for.

Okay, thanks.

It says something about Rockbox Utility, but I cannot find it on the site.

Edit: Nevermind, it must be gone or something. Doing it manually....

Nevermind again, downloading now. Sorry :P

Edit: Okay, I downloaded it, but I get a configuration error that says that the configuration is invalid due to a new installation of rockbox utility or a changed device path. I can go to the MP3 player selection screen but clicking on it does nothing. I have the MP3 plugged in, of course, and I tried loading it through both modes, but it just shows the same message again. I tried autodetect device but that did nothing either.

Sorry if I'm asking noobish questions, but it's a lot different from what I was doing earlier (which, thank god, wasn't a success).

1) Read the warning at the top of this page: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SansaE200Port.  If you have a v2, I'm sorry, but Rockbox won't run on your device.

2) Isn't the RbUtility pretty self-explanatory?  The error message says that it's because of "a new installation of Rockbox utility" AKA "this is the first time you've used it".

2) If autodetection doesn't work (which it should), select your device manually (AKA expand the Sandisk Tab and click on Sansa E200, and then select the drive letter Windows assigned it on top).

3) Click OK.

I know, sorry, but I just wanted some answers.

....and it turns out I have a V2. Crap.

Guess the thread can sink down or whatever.
