Installing Rockbox?
« on: January 15, 2008, 01:34:59 PM »
Hello, I am new to Rockbox and have downloaded the Zipped file. I unzipped the file but cannot seem to find an .exe file to installe or run the program. Assistance is appreciated. OS = WinXP Home

The manual has very good installation instructions.

Go the following link to find the manual for your music player.

I followed the instructions to a link with several downloads for the RBUtility:

which one do I pick?

I initially got the top one:

but there are other, later dated downloads.

I got the latest dated download:

extracted it and ran it preliminarily and an error message popped up:

something about a previous build having been run then it asked for me to do this or that, i canceled out and another screen showed:

Which of these RB Utility programs would I use for a Sandisk Samnsa E260? And is there a problem with having opened an earlier version then opening the latest version?

Thanks for the help

As you can see in the Timestamps of the filelisting you posted,  the second option is the newest version of rbutil, so choose this. And it doesnt matter if you have run the other tool bevor, please read the manual, and also read the Text which programs output...

and please dont post such big images here, instead describe it in a few words, or if you really need beig pictures link to them...

Jun 07 is the newest? The reason for asking is because I'm not familiar with these programs and didn't know if there multiple types of programs in this list.

Sorry for the pics but I originally was going to just describe the issue but believe me, you wouldn't be able to understand what I describe.

It's moot now anyway. I returned the Sansa and won't be buying another. I figure if the OEM software doesn't allow for it to function well enough, I won't bother with it when there are a multitude of superior players available.
