Problem with AGC Safety on iRiver h320?

Hey all,

Last time I checked in here, I was asking for advice on my newly rockboxed iRiver, now I'm about a dozen live recordings deep and I must say that I'm loving my new taping rig to death!! Although I do have one concern: I've noticed that with my recordings, the first few songs sound considerably brighter/punchier than the mid-end to end of a show, which sound a little muddled/mix-less. Is this due to the AGC Safety? Would AGC Live fix this problem? I've yet to tinker with the Live setting at a show due to the fact that I don't want to botch a one-time recording with experimentation. This is not a huge problem, it's mostly idle curiosity / being anal about sound quality.

Any thoughts?

AGC does not change the sound quality, only the gain.

AGC-Safety will only lower the gain if there is a risk of clipping, and is the only AGC method used by recording purists.

All other AGC options vary by the time constants used to increase gain again if levels are low.

If you are using AGC-Safety, would you mind posting a screenshot of how the waveform looks in an editor (like audacity)? Maybe the 'punch' you hear is actually the gain being too high with some mild clipping as a result?
