e250 is bricked?
« on: January 14, 2008, 04:27:18 PM »
Ok I talked my son through Rockboxing his e250. It worked fine. He then went and did mine.
It died. I think the issue was that it was out of space.

He was in the process of copying the .rockbox directory and then it started connect and disconnect and cycled and rebooted.

Nothing is going on but the blue lighted ring lights.
I can't get it into recovery mode either. Hopefully someone has some ideas.

When I try to connect to my PC it comes up and says unrecognized device.

I tried to get it into recovery mode. The PC is no longer seeing anything on it :(

I guess I will stop playing with until someone has some ideas!

It is not bricked. That's next to impossible to do with your sansa.

See http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/SansaE200Unbrick for further work.

Sorry I should have mentioned that I tried the items on that page.

Power off
Turn ON lock/hold
Hold down record
Hit Power/Menu Button

I did indeed try this.

Power off

Turn on Lock/Hold (that is the metal switch on top)  I assume that means slide it to the lock position.

Hold down the record button (the large button on the side)

Hit the power button.

Blue light comes on only.

A primary question is. Should it be connected when I am going through this process or not?

Another note of mention. There is NO screen activity regardless of what I do :-[

Thanks,

Then you are probably in manufacturing mode. Follow the instructions on the wiki to recover your Sansa.
NOTE: If it fails, you might be in pre-boot mode.

I guess I can build a linux box :P

Let me know if you get a confirmation on Windows e200tool working!

or even better. where would I get a good e250 rom from?

Can I get it out of Manufacturing mode?

thanks again,

Yes, it works on Windows, but the drivers are such a pain, you are much better off using Linux. (I will provide instructions if you insist though.)
You can search on Google for an e250 bootloader and/or rom (the i2c rom is only necessary if it is in pre-boot mode).
Yes, you need to follow the directions in the wiki or on http://daniel.haxx.se/sansa/e200tool.html

I got a linux box up and working.
My USB is working but I can't seem to see my sansa e250. If I plug the good one in it appears in the usb/devices file but the problem one does not.

When I execute the command I get this.

./e200tool recover BL_SD_BOARDSUPPORTSD.ROM
e200tool v0.2.3-alpha (c) by MrH 2006, 2007
Searching for device 0781:0720 ... 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0 not found!
Searching for device 0b70:0003 ... 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0 not found!

I have looked at the directions on both sites and I have tried everything and nothing seems to work. I can't get the system to recognize the Sansa. (My windows system has stopped recognizing it also)

I have tried starting it up with  the RECORD button held and the Key Lock on.

Am I missing something?

Bring it to manufacturing mode. Turn hold ON, and hold select while you plug USB in, and keep holding select for about 10 seconds. Then, give it a try.

Tried that. No effect. Ring is blue. Screen is black and same results as before with e200tool.

I read somewhere else it said about taking the battery out to completely reset it but I am going to listen to one person at a time. I know how hard it is to troubleshoot a problem when someone is going off doing exploratory surgery!

I am not sure I have a good rom. I know you probably can't put links here but perhaps could you give me good search words to put in google? I haven't had a lot of luck. I am not sure if I am in preboot or Manufacturing? Can you give me a nudge in the right direction? or I could provide an email address.

Thanks once again
