Background on the problem - mechanically, these things don't take shock overly well, and after owning a c240 for 5 months, a contact bent in the female jack (I slipped on a patch of ice). It had been rockboxed for about 3 months, and hadn't seen a firmware update. I turned it in and got a replacement, that, as far as I can tell, is also a v1 model.
I'm running the latest build as of this post (r16089) for the c200, with 32Kbps Ogg Vorbis for almost all of my music, with some exception for some music which would crash AudioKonverter, and so stays in MP3 format.
There are a number of issues arising from this new player.
- When you power it via USB, it detects my model id as e200, rather than c2xx. This is kind of wierd, and it might say a lot more about the nature of this problem (of course, it might also be completely benign).
- skipping forward and backward is particularly unresponsive. It takes as much as six seconds to show the tag information on the Ogg file and change the song. This is particularly awkward with the extended M3U playlists, where it will attempt to show the information for a song and ultimately end up a few songs behind of what is actually playing.
- skipping backward often doesn't work at all: after a few minutes of play, the player will often accept a skip-back as a skip-forward. This can be resolved by powering down the unit and restarting.
Any insight anyone has to offer would be appreciated - this is a strange and irritating set of problems.
[edit 2008 01 16]: As it turns out, this is not a hardware problem, as far as I can tell. Switching to view playlist mode rather than the WPS for music navigation works fine. Further, I can use the back button to return to the WPS (from the current playlist view) at any time - yet when I use the same button to skip back a song, it will still skip forward.
