Feature Freeze?
(1/1)
GuitarRocker2562:
Hi, I have been using rockbox since it was first working on the iPod video (60GB). Now I have an 80GB instead, but whatever. I have noticed that in the past year or so, rockbox has gained a lot of new features, but it is becoming less and less stable. When I play and album I always get this nasty bug for at least one song (always changes) where like the first 5 seconds play and then rockbox skips to the next song, very irritating. How can this be fixed, and does anyone else have this probelm.
This is just one bug I noticed, and what i think we should do to fix the stability of rockbox is have another feature freeze, optimize as much as possible on all targets, stabalize everything we can, and come out with a 3.0 release, this would only take a few months and it seems to me that there are no brand new ports going on now, so why not, we have the features that will keep people happy for now, so why not stabalize them?

I direct you at an excellent post Bagder recently made on his blog:

In my opinion, whilst a freeze may be desirable in some ways, last time we had one it didn't work. A large part of this is that developers find it very boring, and everybody is in rockbox in their spare time for fun. The result of this is that the freeze went on and on with people developing their new features waiting until after the freeze to commit them.

Have you filed a bug report about this? We can't fix bugs we don't know about.
