Nimbus 19
« on: January 10, 2008, 08:44:28 PM »
Does anyone know of any Themes that are suitable for this font that really look nice.  I think this is the perfect size font.  It's a shame it's not used more.

There must be some drawback to using a larger font since so few use them.  But for a older guy like myself that small stuff just ain't cuttin these days.   ;D

Is there a reason why the larger fonts aren't more prevalent?

well if you want to use a font size that big... best way really is to make your own theme or modify a existing one. Unless of course theres a theme already that uses big fonts. For example I wanted to use unifont to see the kanji in my jmusic amongst many other tweaks, so I modified dockpod aqua to fit my taste.

Most people don't use bigger fonts because you can't fit as much on the screen.

I personally want my screen FULL of info, so I use a 12 font. Don't remember which one off hand, but it's roughly the same as nimbus 12.

I'll second the "Do it yourself" thing.  Nothing beats making your own WPS. Everything's exactly where you want it.

Yotto,

You are the same person that replied to me on another thread when I was asking about backgrounds, so you should already know that's what I'm attempting to do.

I personally only want basic normal info onscreen although the time is nice to have on screen.  I don't sit there and read the thing while i'm listening to it.  So in answer to your question, yes I'm already attempting to make my own theme.  Nimbus 19 is about the same size on the ipod video as the apple fonts.  I'm sure apple chose this size because it's easy to read and works pretty good.

I only wanted to know if there was a technical reason people were steering away from normal size fonts other than to fit more onscreen.  What I mean by that is it maybe it might not be possible to read something in a game, or the font would be to large for use of (fill in the blank).  The only thing I can think of is maybe reading text may be annoying.

I'm having a slow time learning how to place stuff using the tags but I'm sure I'll eventually get it.

Yeah I suppose so.  You young guys kill me.   :D

I guess after I finish a few I'll  upload them and share for anyone else tha may want a them with larger fonts.

I have to nearly put my glasses on for the default font and I have pretty decent vision even without them.  I only have trouble with the bottom line on chart.  (the one that says "made in china")   ;D

I actually don't pay that much attention to names so I didn't know that.  That's cool though.

Yes.  It's been a long time since I've seen the original firmware, but they also strive for the minimal IIRC. That's great if it's your thing.

There is no technical reason that I know of why people don't use it. I would assume that any font in the pack is good enough to display at the very least your standard sub-128 ASCII characters.  I personally am not too hot on that font, I don't like the thick verticals.  But if it's your thing, go for it.

We all did. Once you get it, it's great, but there's a learning curve. I personally found a WPS that was close to what I wanted, and edited it until it was to my liking. Once I got it there, I knew most of what I needed to make my ideal WPS from scratch.

yotto im actually in that phase right now but it is hard to make your own wps from scratch especially when you suck at both photoshop and figuring out the coding =P

I'm not necessarily crazy about the Nimbus 19 font in particular.  It was just there and about the right size to be easy to read.  It wasn't particularly horrible to me, although if I had my choice I probably would be using something different.  I'll look around for some free ones I like and maybe I'll convert one.  Who knows.  I just like the bigger fonts.  Much easier on the the eyes to me.
