Found New Hardware Rockbox Media Player
« on: January 17, 2008, 02:48:03 PM »
Now, I have done searches on this but still come up with nothing that I can see tells me what to do here.

Every time I plug the RockBox iPod in I get the New Hardware Wizard popping up and asking to install software.

The iPod with Rock Box is working fine, is visible as a drive under Windows explorer, and I can view it in Winamp and send files to it from Winamp.  I cant see where Winamp puts these files I send, I assume somewhere in the Ipod Music directory.

Also Winamp does not see the files I copy over to the iPod using Explorer.

I know I can just tell it to ignore in future and just get on with transfering files using Explorer, but is there a driver available?
I have seen some mention of Archos drivers, but cant find the thread again.

What is happening here? How do I sort it.

One last question...where would most people put music in the directory structure.  I created a Music folder under root.

System...Win XP
iPod Late 5th G Video

The very front page at www.rockbox.org tells you to just ignore those driver pop ups for now.
They're just a sign that the USB stack for Rockbox is unfinished.

As for you Winamp problems - they're best addressed to the Winamp folks rather than us - we've no idea where their software puts its files I'm afraid.

As to what folder structure to use - it doesn't make any difference to Rockbox. I personally use this :

Music\Artist\Album

but you're free to use whatever you want.

Doh!!.

 :-[
OK, thanks, I did read that at first a few days ago when I first d/loaded, thanks, but it did not click as to what it was,
Maybe change it to "New Hardware Driver Wizard" popups or something simlar.

It is not really a problem regarding Winamp, I was just bringing it up, as it may have been a symptom of the directory structure question.

I mentioned everything I was having 'problems'  with...they may have been relevant..maybe not.  I do a lot of support work for people with Windoze, and as you can imagine, they forget to tell you so much, as they thought it was not important.
Thanks for the prompt reply

Neil

PS..why move the question?...I thought it would have been appropriate in the initial Installation Forum, as that was where I was having the problem, during the initial install.

Quoting from the sticky in the Apple Installation forum entitled "POSTING IN THIS FORUM":

This forum is for topics relating to the installation of Rockbox on Apple models only. Specifically this means questions about the installation process and/or problems you're having with it. Once you have booted Rockbox successfully even once, you should voice your concerns in other forums.

Seeing as you have clearly managed to boot rockbox (you would not get the driver popup otherwise and be trying to transfer music), this was not in any way an installation question.
