120GB Support?
« on: January 10, 2008, 02:10:09 AM »
Does Rockbox support my 120gb ipod?
Model MB150LL v1.0.2 PC and serial num ending in MYMX.

ipodpatcher says 'No ipods found' although the Rockbox Utility will install everything to the .rockbox folder on the ipod drive.
Trying to install the bootloader with the rbox util asks if I want to reinstall it but it will not find the ipod to do so.

Holding Menu and Select buttons to start unit shows apple logo in black and white for a long time then eventually boots to the ipod os.

Running XP.

120gb
I guess you mean 160GB, since Apple doesn't offer a 120GB iPod, unless you swapped out the hard drive yourself.

It seems you have an iPod Classic.  These are not supported by Rockbox, and probably will not be for a very long time, if at all.

Yes, 160gb.  Why no expected support for that unit?  New and difficult to crack?  I am trying this unit out and I am not a big fan of the ipod setup anyway.

What is the largest hard drive mp3 player available that does support rockbox?  One that records live music with mic would be handy too.

While the poster has  a 160GB Classic, there is a 120GB replacement drive from Samsung coming that you can find here for the 5.5G iPod:

http://www.rapidrepair.com/shop/3019-samsung-hard-drive-disk-spinpoint-n2-120gb.html

It would be great to know if this is installed in a 5.5G iPod if it can be rockboxxed. And Samsung 160GB replacement drive is also mentioned as being in development, which I read elsewhere.

Idmes, I replaced my iPod video's 60GB HDD with a 100GB drive (I couldn't find a 120GB drive at the time), and both Rockbox and the Apple firmware can use it fine.
