1)  Why didn't you use the official instructions in the manual?

2)  Why did you post this in recording?  I've moved it.

3)  Read the section in the manual or installing a build.

4)  It is probably also a good idea to redo the section in the manual on installing a bootloader.  Who knows what version you have now.

5)  Please do not follow instructions from random websites.

6)  Please use a descriptive title for your thread as per the posting guidelines.  Please read them.

Look before you leap

This idiom means that you should think carefully about the possible results or consequences before doing something.

Hold MENU+SELECT, then straight away when it reboots, hold SELECT+PLAY. This should put it into disk mode.

Heh. I just don't like stating that things are absolutely certain, because eventually, they always mostly turn out not to be.

It only doesn't work on iPods which are damaged hardware wise in some ways.

i got the same message on my ipod, but just consider it calmly, and dont panic.  if you used a mac to install rockbox, the just start to run the installing process again, then, instead of pressing i then "enter" in the terminal, just press u then "enter" instead, this will uninstall rockbox, and you will have to just reboot your ipod

Isn't disk mode part of the OF boot loader?  Couldn't it be damaged somehow?

Some kind of strange damage that leaves it able to attempt to boot Rockbox but unable to boot disk mode...

If you iPod is well enough to attempt to start Rockbox, then it's well enough to start disk mode - you're just doing it wrong.
