Windows not recognizing iPod 80g

hey fellas, I decided to install Rockbox on my iPod because I got tired with using iTunes

but during the installation the ipod patcher program (the one that installs the rockbox boot on the ipod) would not recognize that the iPod was plugged in

i put it into disk mode and turned hold on and it still does not see it

also i checked that i downloaded the right patcher which i did.

If someone with the interest and the skill does the work.  Rockbox is ported by the owners, we do not plan ports.  The iPod Classics have completely new undocumented hardware, and an encrypted firmware that has not been broken.  Do not hold your breath.

I'm not technologically inclined, so excuse my lack of  knowledge. From my understanding, there is a difference between the ipod classic, and the ipod 5.5 Generation? Therefore, may I conclude that all I need to do is return this ipod classic and find one that is a 5.5 generation 80gb ipod?

Yes, if you can find one. The "Classic" has replaced the Generation 5.5.
