wow looks like i'm not the only one

nothing above has worked yet, but its gotta be my windows setup.  I'll work on it later today.
Thanks for all the help though, if i format and it still doesn't work, i'll have a couple things to try.

VMWare is finicky. Especially if you've ever quit it by just clicking the X in the corner, rather than telling the computer to shut down. I've found restarting the whole virtual computer is actually necessary every now and then.

Yea same, I can get a good 4-5 quick shutdowns before Samba stops working and I have to restart.

Llorean:
Sometimes restarting Samba is enough, as the earlier user suggested, by the way. But I found that sometimes it was easier to just restart the whole thing, if I couldn't pinpoint where the problems were happening.

Mad Cow:
Well since I suck at linux I don't know how to restart samba. :D
