80 gig ipod xp media center new hardware found asking for driver
« on: January 07, 2008, 08:42:17 AM »
Hello All

If this has been asked I am sorry.  I did do a search and did try a few things.

I installed rockbox following the manual installation onto a 80 gig 5.5 gen ipod video.  The install went well but there may have been a glitch.  The manual says to install the bootloader last which I did.  At the end I really can not recall at this time it said that you may now disconnect the device as normal.  I stopped the ipod using the safely remove hardware button.  As soon as it stopped before I had a chance to unplug it. The ipod rebooted into rockbox and the computer came up saying found new hardware to install insert disk.  I just hit cancel because I do not have a driver for rockbox.

Things I have tried
Reset and started in disk mode.  Plugged in the ipod and I can see it as a drive and the ipod says do not disconnect.  I stop it using safely remove hardware button and it says ok to disconnect.  When I disconnect it that screen will not go away.  The only way to get out of the ok to disconnect screen is to reset the ipod again.  Is this normal?

Then I looked in itunes for enable disk support or something like that .  The itunes I have does not have that under edit preferences ipod.

I have rebooted the computer several times.  A few times before going into disk mode I deleted it in device manager the rockbox ipod with a yellow astrick on it then rebooted.

Also a few other little things.

Questions
Do I have to have itunes open when I connect it?  I currently have itunes set to not startup when the ipod is plugged in.

Thanks to all.
