Iriver Germany says Rockbox broke my sons H10
(1/1)
Jancen:
Hi,
my son has got an H10 with Rockbox. He bought it las january. In the meantime his player was once in the maintaince. Now it was broken again. So we sent it again to the service center. Now iriver claims that rockbox caused a mainboard crash and a broken HDD. How do they know if the HDD is broken?
I think we bought a monday gum. What can I do? They don't return my device and want 100 € for repair.

AlexP:
I'm not sure there is much you can do. Rockbox did not break the H10 (well, there is no evidence to say it has ever done so before, and I find it hard to believe), but iriver are well within their rights to refuse to repair it with rockbox on - it quite clearly says on their website that installing rockbox voids the warranty, and we make no secret of this.
nicks23:
i'm just curious but if you erase all rockbox files then format the harddisk and install the iriver firmware from the beginning are they in a possition to know that someone had installed a third party firmware?
bascule:
I think the general assumption on any device is that if the bootloader is removed and/or the original firmware is re-instated (plus deleting the .rockbox folder), that any service centre would be none the wiser.
Of course, when your device breaks you may not be able to do that because it is broken. It's a Catch-22 situation
