Poblem with special characters...

Hello, I can't find a solution to my problem in the manual. I have few albums with song names written using special characters (polish ). The thing is that ROCKBOX encodes them properly in one song (album name/artist name) and then fails in another one...

ex.



SAMOTNOŚĆ PO ZMIERZCHU (Disc 1, Disc 2)
The two albums were encoded one after another using the same technique, yet Rockbox encodes special characters only on DISC 1...

Please help.

Although the encoding may have been done in the same way, it's possible the tags in the files are incorrect. Did you enter the tags for both albums yourself, or did you retrieve them from somewhere (for example freedb or gracenote)?

Okay, so you are sure they are both correct  

All I can think of at the moment is deleting the 'good' one, disc 1 (or move it to your PC), then rebuild the database, and see if the 'bad' one still shows up 'bad'.

Are the characters also different in the WPS? If they are, then it should be a problem with your tags.

Otherwise, perhaps the codepage setting got changes after you inserted 1 disc but before you inserted the other. Try to rebuild the database.

the characters are fine in WPS... Sansa's original firmware displays them correctly as well... I'm gonna try to uninstall Rockbox and install it again.

reinstalling Rockbox does not help... rebuilding database fails too. Strangely enough when I enter ID3 tag info in Rockbox, all characters are encoded incorrectly (Artist name, title, album title) except the ones in file's path: MUSIC/Album/File -  here, Rockbox encodes them correctly.  

Will sending you one of the files that is encoded incorrectly help?

Do you know which version ID3 tags these files have (like ID3v1, ID3v2.3 or ID3v2.4)? Are there differences?

they have both id3v2 and id3v1


ok, so I changed ALL tags to UNICODE... effect = now all special characters do NOT work...

sorry for double posting...

I experimented a bit with my Sansa, and this is what I discovered:

WMA files - all special characters work fine... no problem here.
MP3 files - none special characters work - after converting mp3 files to WMA with the same IDv3 all special characters work fine.

What is more, I managed to find some more polish Rockbox users who claim that they too can't see polish characters on their Sansa/Ipod runing Rockbox, so it's not just my problem.

I'm getting more and more confused...

i tried to convert my Tags to unicode yesterday with MP3 Tag assistant pro, didn't work...

Now, i've tried Mp3tag and it worked magic   - (at least on the album I tried).
