Rockbox splash screen appears but nothing else happens

I am trying to make rockbox work with my ipod 3G. I extracted into my ipod the ./rockbox and the fonts, and I installed the linux bootloader. Then, I rebooted my ipod. A splash screen shows up that says "ROCKbox" and the screen lights up, but nothing else happens. Can somebody please advise me?

Thanks!

AlexP:
1) Which linux bootloader?  If you mean the official rockbox bootloader but you installed it from linux OK.  If you mean the iPod linux bootloader, that is unsupported.  Please install the rockbox bootloader and try again.

I used this link:
http://download.rockbox.org/bootloader/ipod/ipodpatcher/linux32x86/ipodpatcher

It's the bootloader recommended by the installation instructions on ROCKbox's website. Is that the correct one?

AlexP:
Yes, that is indeed correct.

There is a general problem with 1st, 2nd and 3rd Gen iPod builds that even though there may have been no code change, some builds work and others don't which may be the problem here.  You can try every new current build (every time there is a commit - i.e. an update to SVN activity on the front page there is a new current build).  Once you find a working one, keep a backup of it for when you next try to upgrade in case of a problem.  You can also try the older archived daily builds (http://www.rockbox.org/daily.shtml).

If you hold right whilst booting, does anything happen?

See this thread for more details: http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=14771.0

Typically, on a 'bad' build you might see some (tiny) text referring to a data error or something similar. Build r16000 with a 2G iPod was the first time I got a frozen Rockbox logo, but the next build I tried worked fine :)
