Problems with Bootloader

I can't get the bootloader program to install said bootloader onto my Sansa e280...  Whenever I run the .exe and it checks to see if there's a Sansa plugged in to the computer it fails.  The manual for installing Rockbox doesn't say anything about this issue, and the Wiki only says to make sure you don't have the Sansa firmware updating program on your computer.  Can anyone help?
