Did I do something wrong?

(1/2) > >>

JohnMidnight:
Well, finally got EVERYTHING working right, everything. Except, it wont find my pics and music.
Alright when I got everything install, rockbox loaded fine (I tweaked the themes setting) before going to the DataBase.
Well I did that and then it asked "Press the reboot key"
Well.. reboot key, huh? Lol. so I figured just shut it down, and load it back up. Did that, and went back to DataBase and it says, Database not initialized. again. Huh, I think and go let it do its thing, and its been sitting here for the past three minutes going no where at 0 files found.

JohnMidnight:
Anyone? Its a e280 v1 fully updated running the newest RockBox 16000, not updated to 005 yet, just saw its new. But regardless I have the same problem. Database does not initialize. Period. I reinstalled RockBox, and it did find everything and asked me to reboot. I did, I come back, database still not initialized...

bascule:
It doesn't mean reboot as in shutdown.

It says press 'Select' (IIRC) to Initialise. So you need to press that and wait while it builds the database which can take some time.

If it still does not build it, there will be a music file that it chokes on for some reason, normally dodgy tags. If you search the forums, you will find lots of references to how to solve that problem.

JohnMidnight:
Whenever I freshly install RockBox is builds the database then asks to reboot, is it not "turn off" and "turn on"? When I do that it still says Database needs to be initialize, but unlike it did previously, it does nothing just sits there saying Initilizing or w/e but 0 file found for lonnng time.

bascule:
OK, I see what you mean.

When it restarts after the database build it should have a splash screen saying 'Committing Database 1/9' which counts up to '...9/9'. If you are not seeing this, then it is not working properly.

The first thing to try is going to /.rockbox/ and deleting all the *.tcd files (database_idx, database_0...database_8 in my case), then re-initialise your database all over again.

If that doesn't work, try removing most of your music and re-initialising the Database again. If that works OK, then it's probably a dodgy file. You'll need to keep adding a small number of files back on and re-initiialising until it stops working correctly, then you'll need to fix the tags on whichevr file is causing the problem.
