Transferring files to X5 w/Rockbox.
(1/1)

Rockbox'd my X5 and the improvements can hardly be described -- this firmware is truly awesome!!
Does everyone here connect the usb cable via subpack and transfer while the X5 is switched off, or is it possible to transfer when rockbox is running?
With the original firmware, I plugged the USB cable in and all it would ever say on the screen (regardless of whether the x5 is on or off when connected) is "OK TO DISCONNECT". ie. it wasn't registering as a drive.
Then I fiddled around and connected via the USB port in the back of the laptop rather than a USB hub & it registers as a drive.
With rockbox on - no matter which USB port I connect to, it shows on the X5 screen as being connected, but doesn't register at all on my latpop. Â It works fine if the X5 is switched off, provided I plug it into the USB host port.
The other thing is that when it is connected, I can't select the "safely remove" option -- XP says "try later". Not sure if it is good to be resetting the x5 all the time!
Anyone encountered anything similar?

This sounds like a hardware problem, maybe more with the USB connection on the computer part - have you ever tried connecting your X5 to a different machine? On my M5 (the "brother" of the X5 with greyscale display) I've never seen such problem - when it is connected from an "off" state it shows "Connected" on the screen and I can access the disk; after the safe removal it says "OK to disconnect". When connected from a running Rockbox, I'll get the Rockbox USB screen and I can access the disk.

I always have to "safely remove" my M5 twice after writing to the disk.

Thanks Pixelma -- did a bit more searching on genera IT forums and found norton antivirus interferes with mass storage devices on occasions -- disabled it an all is tops.
Cheers.
