5th gen Ipod dead.......help...please!

Hi. Rockboxed my 5th gen Ipod and it worked fine for a few weeks. However my car charger became disconnected and I drained the battery right down. Couldn't get it to respond in anyway. tried the reset procedure, tried leaving it on charge for a couple of days and tried just leaving it for a day. Nothing makes any difference. My pc wouldn't recognised it either. No start up screen, sounds etc nothing.
Thought I'd try changing the battery and when I did the start up screen appeared, loaded rockbox then turned itself off again and is now back to no response! the battery seemed to be very warm for a while but its cooled off again now.
Any ideas?
Your help's greatly appreciated!

Try this:
Plug it into the charger and then restart it (turn hold on, then off, then hold menu and select until it boots up).
Report back with results.

nope tried that! Just gave it another go as well and its still completely dead!

thanks

I don't think the battery is supposed to get very warm very quickly after you turn on the device.  It might be drawing too much current due to a short or something close to a short.

I have in the past jump-started a V2 Archos Jukebox Recorder by providing power in parallel with the battery during the power-up hard drive activity and then letting it charge normally.  You could also provide power instead of the battery, from a supply that gives 3.5-4.2V DC or so.  Then you could measure current draw.  Make sure you get the polarity right.

I don't think I'll be able to do that as the connector to the motherboard form the battery is a printed ribbon cable that you couldn't connect an external power source to without damaging, plus there's no indication on either the board or battery as to polarity.
thanks though.
