Sansa e200 wheel inconsistencies
« on: January 02, 2008, 05:19:20 PM »
I recently had some troubles on my Sansa e260, and ended up replacing the actual unit.  First thing I did when getting the new one was installing Rockbox and all worked fine.  However, I have noticed something which doesn't seem quite right, and I am wondering what may be the cause, and if perhaps there may be a fix out there somewhere.

When I use the wheel to move up and down, or if I play a game using the wheel, it doesn't consistently move in the right direction.  While moving up, it may suddenly start down, and then back up again.  If I am moving right, then maybe it will jump suddenly to the left just a bit before moving right again.  It will also start that way sometimes, so that if I am at the top of a list, and want to move down just one place, it will move up instead, and then back down.

Of course, at first I thought it may be a hardware issue, but I don't find this happening using the Sansa firmware, which gives me doubts..  I just tried it and found that in the main menu if I spin the wheel constantly in one direction the menu does scroll in only that one direction.  There seem to be no stops or flicks back in the other direction.  I am not sure how definitive a test this may be, but it did seem to operate as expected.

Has anyone else noticed anything like this, and is there a possible change I can make which may smooth it out?  I did install the latest daily build, thinking it may be something which was fixed, but found no change so far.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I have noticed the same thing - I have the 2gb model (240 I think), and it is a refurbished unit.

on a related note, has anyone noticed that everything up/down on the sansa is mapped to the scroll-wheel while everything left/right is mapped to the left/right buttons?  this gets so confusing when trying to write something (be it a saved game in rockboy or just navigating the maze game) because the up/down buttons don't work to move up/down, you need to use the scroll-wheel.  I know its a small issue, but it sure as hell does get annoying.

oh, and hockeybum, the e250 is the 2gb model ;)
