Plugin suggestion - Simple net browser for wifi enabled mp3 players?
« on: January 01, 2008, 08:33:11 PM »
A lot of mp3 players arew getting the ability to share music via wifi. Is there a way you could make a simple internet browser for them?
Thanks,

Well it's kind of completely pointless because not a single rockbox target has wifi. And with the limited amount of buttons on a DAP, it would make browsing slow and confusing I would thing.

Not to mention you would need to write a network stack and a wireless driver for a (most likely undocumented) wireless device.

IMO a simple HTML viewer (Plucker viewer is better but HTML is ok) is more suitable for rockbox (no need for network stacks or driver etc., just a viewer) than a full featured web browser.

There's no such thing. HTML is a horrible thing to try and parse. Why is it do you think that no two web browsers display pages identical, making a web designer's life so miserable because they have to hack their design in multiple different ways to make sure as many people as possible can view it properly?

Gah! GodEater hit the nail right on the head! I do web design for a hobby and it is fricking painful, you have a huge variety of browsers, the main ones being Firefox, Opera, IE and Safari, and you have to make sure it works in ALL of them.
I reply with this image (I did NOT make it):

Oh, and also, im pretty sure that the rockbox devs would like to make RB work flawlessy before making a browser...

IMHO it's very unlikely that rockbox will EVER be absolutely flawless on any target. Actually, it doesn't need to.
