Database not detecting songs....
« on: December 31, 2007, 10:15:40 PM »
I am new here so sorry if I am asking an obvious question or posted in the wrong forum. :) Just what the title says. I have a Sansa e280R and when I first installed it I went to the database to refresh the songs and it worked. Then it said to reboot my mp3 player to apply the changes. So I restarted and went to database again and it said database was not ready and to build press the select button so I pressed the select button and i left it for a while and it didnt detect anything!!!
If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for any help,
Bensawsome

What format are your songs in and where are they located?

Two things:
1. Is the folder hidden? If so, is rockbox configured to show all files?
2. Have you tried forcing a complete rebuild of the database by doing Settings->General Settings->Database->Initialize Now ?

1. Yes and I try to unhide through windows explorer but I think the Sansa firmware keeps hiding it again.... and I am not sure how to make it show all files.
2. Yes but it says rebuilding in background and I wait a while but nothing ever happens.
By the way thanks for all the help so far :)

Ok I tried reinstalling rockobx (deleted the .rockbox folder and then extracted it again) and I renamed the "Music" folder to "Rockbox Music" and now the sansa firmware isnt hiding the "Rockbox Music" folder but the sansa firmware did create a folder called "MUSIC"
The same thing happened as in my first post.
It built it and then told me to reboot and I did but I went to database again and it said database not ready.
Thanks,
Bensawsome

On your reboot, does it "commit" the database, as it should say on the screen?

What build are you using?

You could try deleting all files related to the database in the .rockbox folder. Then, do a complete rebuild of the database, MAKE SURE YOU LET IT FINISH, and then reboot. Please describe what happens during this process.

On second thought, try deleting .rockbox and unzipping a new copy, then try to build the database and describe EXACTLY what happens.

Well I did that and it said building database and the number kept going up and it said please reboot to enable and I rebooted and it said "building configuration 1/9" and went to the start screen and I went into database again and it said it wasn't ready and to press select to build and I pressed select and it said "building 0 found"

I have over 2000 files on my mp3 player. Would that affect it?

I've been having exactly the same problem with an iRiver H10 20gb. I tried to increase the maximum number of songs in the rockbox settings to the maximum, but has made no difference to the database.

What happens when I turn on my player is:

When rockbox starts up it says "building configuration 1/9" for about 1 second then goes to the normal rockbox menu screen.

When I select Database I get the Database not ready message and the option to initialize or to exit.

When I select initialize now it says "building 0 found".

I have left it for about 45 minutes to initialize but it never does anything. I have tried initializing it from the General Settings - Database menu, but that does nothing either. Nor does unhiding all the folders, adding database.unignore files, or updating the database (in the background).

The player had been working fine on Rockbox for about 6 months before this happened, the only thing that I did was add some song files. I have since rremoved most of the ones I added in case they were corrupt and therefore corrupting the database, but to no avail.

I have used about 13gigs of the 20. I would like to be able to use most of the storage space if possible since the large capacity was one of the main reasons I bought it.

Please let me know if the number of songs thing is going to be an ongoing issue or if there is some other way around it.

Cheers

I have over 11000 songs on my DAP with the 60 GB storage full and the database initialises just fine - total number of songs is not the issue.  What do you have both max files in a directory and max playlist size set to?
