Mac terminal: operation not supported

absolutely:
I'm trying to convert my iPod to FAT32 so I can do the bootloader.  My iPod is unmounted.  I've followed all the instructions.  I get to where I do the thing in terminal, and I get this:

What am I doing wrong?

You shouldn't have to log in as root, but either sudo or use an account with admin privs.
