Anything worth upgrading for on e200 from Oct 1st?

(1/1)

rich0:
I've been running the Oct 1st build of the e200 for about a month now as I was having lots of 10-second freeze-ups with the latest builds (it sounds like completely wiping out my config settings might could possibly that based on forum discussion since then).  However, the Oct 1st build works just fine, and looking at the list of major changes really the only thing that I see having any benefit is the USB interface, but of course the original firmware works just fine for charging for me.  I am not using MicroSD cards, so that isn't a benefit at this point.  I don't really care about the keymap change one way or another (getting used to the old keymap again was just as hard as getting used to the new one was it seems).

Has anything happened since Oct 1st that would be a compelling reason to upgrade?

I guess that is one of the downsides of not actually having releases - there really isn't any kind of milestone to indicate when a lot of new/improved functionality is present...

AlexP:
Only you can tell what new feature or bug fix is worthwhile for you.

Look at the major changes page (as you have) and the SVN commit history and decide for yourself.

psycho_maniac:
Just update it. Its not going to hurt your player and it doesn't take very long to update.

ryran:
You can backup your current .rockbox directory and THEN update. If you don't like what you see.. roll back.

Mikerman:
As stated above, scan through the code changes listing from the opening page link. Among other things, if you're into WPS creation, album art capability and left side margin setting.

I really don't see any reason not to, if you keep your old build to fall back to.  And maybe the glitch now has gone away.  I hadn't updated for 2-3 months as well and then did this month, given a variety of positive developments.
