H320 No Japanese characters in WPS

(1/1)

jpski:
I made a nice simple wps for my iriver H120 a few years back which uses unifont and displays my Japanese songs perfectly.  I recently got an H320 and was excited to try Rockbox on it.  Just to get started playing around with a new kind of Rockbox, I put my H120's wps file and unifont on the H320.

The wps works fine with English titles, and the Japanse files are displayed fine in the file tree, but they become unrecognizable in the wps.  I made sure the wps file was saved in UTE-8 encoding.  Is there something else I'm missing?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

It sounds like the id3 tags in your musicfiles are not encoded in unicode. Stop the music, change the codepage (Settings->General Settings->Display->Default Codepage->Japanese) and restart the music may help.
