Copy/(r)sync over lots of files with FAT32-illegal characters

(1/1)

Rockmenot:
Many of my song and album titles contain characters like *, and ?, which are illegal in FAT32 filenames. This makes copying my music collection to the Rockbox device a pain. The Rockbox FAQ says it will never support other file systems, but is there any way to copy over huge amounts of data while somehow correcting/replacing illegal characters on the destination files, and possibly even using rsync or something similiar? As you might already have guessed, I'm using GNU/Linux.

bluebrother:
amarok has an option "FAT save filenames" (or something similar) when copying / moving files. If you use KDE you might give it a look.

bundy:
You could use Detox http://detox.sourceforge.net/. It has nice options to clean up filenames.
