Playlist clarification
« on: December 28, 2007, 03:56:31 PM »
Hi, I'm considering getting Rockbox for my Sansa, and I've been reading the manual, and I noticed that there is no mention of imported playlists.  Is this right?  I have to make my playlists on my Sansa as opposed to WMP?  If this is the case, are there any programs that I can use on my PC to make playlists?

Thanks in advance

Rockbox uses M3U and M3U8 (UTF-8 encoded M3U) playlists, a very standard format. In fact, the vast majority of music playing and music managing software should be able to create them.

Thanks Llorean, just wanted to make sure since it's not mentioned in the manual.  Maybe something could be added in a future edition of the Sansa manual.

We've never bothered to mention this directly in the manual since we've always assumed anyone caring enough to make playlists would know that .m3u and .m3u8 are the defacto standard used for playlists everywhere (notwithstanding some propietary formats that other manufacturers have decided to cook up).

However, if you feel the manual needs to mention this - then please help us out and write the appropriate section, and add it as a patch to the Rockbox patch tracker (linked to the left of your screen). You can either do the patch as just plain text, and someone else will do the necessary to turn it into LaTEX, or you could be extra kind, and do that step yourself :)
