Trouble opening up folders
« on: February 03, 2008, 03:38:56 AM »
Hi,
I installed rockbox a few months ago on my ipod 5.5g and everything ran smoothly. This last month I started also using my iPod as a harddrive with portable apps and mojopac etc installed on to it. Now whenever rockbox loads, if I try to select a folder or plugin in the respective menu, instead of opening the file the selector jumps to the top of the list. Usually after about five attempts the folder/program finally opens. I think this seems to be worse when rockbox has just booted.

Is there any way to get round this problem, or is there a way of organising my media on the ipod disk to ensure this is minimised? I have quite a lot of folders in the root of the disc.

Many thanks

I really don't believe this is caused by the number of files / folders on the player. Have you updated to the most recent version of Rockbox? And have you checked the scrollwheel accelleration settings? IIRC this came in a while ago (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

It is also possible that you have a problem with cross-linked files.  It's not likely from your description (Usually that wouldn't magically fix itself after a couple minutes) but worth checking for.

Assuming you're on Windows, CHKDSK should find the problem.

I don't believe there are any settings.  Early versions of the acceleration patch did have settings, but these were removed for fixed values for the commit.

I'm sure its not the clickwheel, and checkdisk doesn't show anything wrong. Sometimes now when I select a file/plugin to open it will come up with messages like "cannot find .rockbox directory", "cannot find plugin", "invalid install etc.", but these messages occur randomly and the files will open after several attempts.

What revision are you using and does this also occur in the most recent build?  Does clearing your settings help?  I have sometimes seen odd behavior from bad settings. . . Perhaps one of the portable applications altered the region of the disk where the settings are stored.

Did a reinstall and it's all working lightning speed now. Mojopac must have changed the folder somehow. Many thanks for the replies  :)
