Sat file woes
« on: February 04, 2008, 09:45:28 PM »
Like everyone else, I'm pretty much a rockbox newb.  Anywho- have rockbox loaded, followed the instructions to remove the encryption of my bazillion sat files that were on my gigabeat, but when I copied my files over into the folder I had made for them on my harddrive, they copied over still as SATs.  From what I could see pretty much you just find your music file on your on your gigabeat via windows explorer while usb connected, select all the files, copy them and them paste them into a new folder onto your computer somewhere, is this correct?  Am I missing some sort of vital step because i did it 3 times, and every time my music all copied back onto my hard drive identical with the sat extensions and remaining unplayable.

Thank you ahead of time.

Did you do this part?

Quote
Make sure your AC Adapter and USB cable are connected to your Gigabeat Cradle, and the cradle is switched to USB mode. Now slide the Gigabeat into the cradle and power it up. If everything is set correctly you should see the USB symbol and "USB CONNECTED" "Windows Media Player 10" on the screen of your Gigabeat.

Particularly, it sounds like you should power on the unit while it's in the cradle.  I have never done this procedure, so forgive me if you paid close attention to this part.

You have to be in Window's Media Player mode when you copy your music off. Then there is no encryption on the files but it transfers at ULTRA slow speeds. (usb 1.0)

it is in windows media player mode.

Windows media player never recognized my gigabeat which is part of the reason I am trying out rockbox, as the the gigraoom software is beyond sucky.

It seems like this is the root of my problem then, is there any other way around it, or am I going to be stuck retransfering all my music over again?

Believe me when I say it will take a LOT less time to transfer the music for use in Rockbox.

One way or another your going to be transferring your music if you want to listen to songs on rockbox. The SAT encryption is a pain. When your in WMP mode, you just browse to the gigabeat in my computer and copy the files off that way, not actually in WMP.

this is what I was doing, and it did not work.

Well, thanks for the help, I'll just move my music over again.
