Just Charge from USB?
ctt:
Hi,
I was wondering if there was a way to have Rockbox just enable charging when any USB connection is plugged in.
What I guess is a feature of my PC's motherboard is that it keeps the USB ports powered even though the machine is off. Although it is annoying that devices like my mouse sometimes turn on when the desktop is powered down, a great side effect is that when I plug in my Sansa e280 while the player is on, it starts charging while still working. My guess is that Rockbox figures it's plugged into a charger and doesn't try to establish a USB connection. When my desktop is *on*, or I plug it into other powered-on computers, Rockbox finds a way to enter USB mode automatically: Whereas before it went into its own USB mode, recently, this behavior was changed to just have Rockbox reboot into the native USB mode.
Is there a way to disable this behavior and have Rockbox charge when plugged into any USB port? Would this be possible? It would be great way to keep the battery topped up when near a powered-on computer.

MarcGuay:
Hold down select when you plug it in.
Chronon:
Strange. My *new* Sansa e280 simply displays the plug on the statusbar to signify that it's charging. I was under the impression that Rockbox's USB stack requests the full 500mA available from USB2.0 but does nothing more. My Rockboxed Sansa does just what you want yours to do.
What revision are you using? (I have r15973 here.)

What was "its own USB mode"? I think the auto-reboot-on-connect for the Sansa was disabled because it wasn't working properly. I get the same reaction from my e280 as Chronon described; plus a Window pop-up asking for USB drivers.

At some point (I think when the new USB stack was first enabled) Rockbox went into USB mode when connected to a working computer. This is the mode where you get the big USB icon on the screen.
Thanks again.
