Computer does not recognize Sansa (was: help?)

(1/4) > >>

kim4u:
I've installed rockbox after hearing about it on my Sansa e280 (8GB) mp3/video player.
I installed everything properly and all but I was setting my personal settings for backlight and all that - and accidently set it to 0. Everything went pitch black and I couldn't see anything.

I panicked, pressed a bunch of buttons which got me nowhere.. so I decided to uninstall it and reinstall it.. thing is when I plug my device in, my computer doesn't recognize it anymore... and I tried pressing the power button. Doesn't work...

HELP? I'm thinking I'm in a major crisis here... :(

Rootman:
Well let's take a look.  Are you starting the Sansa in the original OS and NOT in Rockbox?  The Sansa is not recognized by Windows while running Rockbox.  You do this by holding the LEFT (REW) button while turning the unit on.

Are you allowing the unit to totally come up into the Sansa OS BEFORE you plug in the cable into the PC?

If you ARE in the original Sansa OS is the USB mode set to MSC mode?  Go to SETTINGS -> USB MODE and make sure MSC and NOT MTP is chosen.

Make sure all this stuff is OK and then let us know what's going on if you still have problems.

kim4u:
It doesn't start up at all.

Heres how it was

-I installed Rockbox
-Did settings, went to backlight, accidently put it to 0 which made it pitch black
             - panicked and pressed random buttons.
                  -Turned off (I think?)

-Now it won't turn on again
-I tried to turn it on and try to uninstall rockbox through computer hookup so I could get rid of the backlight problem but it wouldn't let me connect

zajacattack:
OK, try this:
1. Take out the battery and place it back.
2. Plug into computer.

kim4u:
Okay that seems to have worked, but I reinstalled just in case but my music folder won't show up when I initiate the player
