UMS connection not working on H10 20gb
(1/1)
woodgrain:
I have had nothing but success with Rockbox. But just today, I accidentally connected via MTP to my Windows XP. After it told me there were no drivers available, i disconnected. Now my H10 hangs on the 'Emergency Connection' screen and won't show up on 'My Computer.' I've tried restarting Windows to no avail. The H10 still works fine, but I just can't connect to add files.
p.s. I forgot to read the rules closer. If this is moved to Gen Discussion I will not be upset.
p.p.s. I'm surprised this kind of problem hasn't come up before. After searching for a few hours, I only came upon one other person with this same problem.

Woodgrain, I had that problem and the good news is that it eventually went away although I don't know what fixed it. If you look at My Computer/Properties/Hardware/Device Manager, I'll bet you see a RockBox with an "!" under Unknown Devices.
I think that something like deleting USB drivers so that they had to reinstall fixed the problem, but I did it over a long period of time and didn't keep good notes.
I hope that this reply at least gives you hope even if it didn't give you much information.

We should be proactive about this and send angry letters to iRiver demanding that future devices be UMS-compatible, without the need for the 'windows media player' bullshit (what a stupid idea that was...)
I have a H10 also, and though it's neat and all, it doesn't even compare with the power and simplicity of the h140...
Llorean:
Petitions to iRiver about the original firmware, especially ones that are just about UMS support, are fairly off-topic for these forums.

I managed to fix this problem quite easily: I unplugged the USB link and plugged it in to another jack. Problem solved. My computer recognized a new hard drive and it's business as usual. Thanks for the replies.
