iPod Video help!!
« on: December 23, 2007, 08:41:47 AM »
Hi, i'm new here, like, 10 minutes new.
I just installed Rockbox, it seems to be working fine on my 5th Gen. Ipod Video, but the only thing wrong is that I can't seem to find any of my videos?  I can see my music fine by entering the database, but I've looked everywhere and can't find any videos.

Any help please?

Videos need to be MPEG1 or MPEG2.  Check out the PluginMpegplayer page on the wiki.

So i have to convert all my old videos into Mpeg1 or 2?
EDIT:  I looked at the wiki, there's an encoding section, do I have to do this to my videos?

What do I use to convert all the videos i have?  WinFF?
If so, how do I use this?  I add all my videos to the large white box underneath files, then convert to what format?  Is there anything else I need to do too?  Also, how long should the converting my videos take?  I have 664.8MBs of movies and such

Yes, WinFF is probably best to use on Windows, but if you use Linux or Mac and are familiar with the command line, it might be easier to use ffmpeg or mencoder.  The PluginMpegplayer wiki page gives instructions on using these.  I have no idea how long encoding the videos will take as it heavily depends on your machine and the source format.

You could still play your videos in the OF system of course.
Ipods dual boot and many people use rockbox for music and apple for video.

Thanks for the help guys, it must be frustrating to help out a guy who knows absolutely nothing about this stuff.

So, now i've got all my videos onto my iPod, but when I play them, the video starts skipping.  The audio itself is fine, no skipping at all.  Anyway to fix?

Try reducing the framerate.  Fullscreen (320x240 on iPod 5.5G) video plays fine for me at 12 FPS.
