IPod 2G "Classic" Shut Down Problem

(1/2) > >>

gnailuj:
Hello,
I just recently installed Roxbox on my 2G 10Gig IPod and absolutely love it, mainly because i can play my FLAC files now.

However, i am not sure if this is a universal bug or just an isolated problem but i have trouble turning off/shutting down my IPod.

When I hold and press the play button +4 seconds the shutting down message does appear. However, once the message disappears the Apple Icon emerges and after a couple seconds the Menu for Rockbox appears.

I tested this many times and it's safe to assume that "the shut down function" for my IPod seems to reboot Rockbox.
*I have also tried Select + Play and that didn't do anything.

I'm currently using build 20071204 (something along those lines) because the most recent build doesn't seem to be working for the IPod 2G.

Thanks

MoD:
I can't answer your question because I don't have an 2nd gen Ipod.
But why don't you just give the auto shutdown option a try? Set it to 1 minute, press pause and activate the hold switch to prevent it from accidentally play again until it shuts down itself.

yapper:
This is known behaviour.

Shutdown in the way you described (by holding down Play/Pause), then switch Hold on. That will force the Apple firmware to start after the reboot, and then it will sleep.

To restart into Rockbox, switch Hold off, then hold down Menu and Play/Pause for a few seconds.

Regarding the build that you noticed didn't work, that also is a known issue. I've listed versions I've tested here:

First, thanks for the help, really appreciated. I have a few more questions.

So am I essentially shutting down using Apples' firmware?

Is this known behavior only for 2G IPods? Or is it with the build?

Thanks

Llorean:
1st and 2nd generation iPods don't actually "shut down". They more or less suspend. Because we haven't implemented suspend at all yet, you'll have to use the Apple firmware. On later iPods, we can just turn 'em off.
