Windows doesn't recognize iPod (was: Possibly bricked my iPod Mini.)
« on: December 21, 2007, 08:18:54 PM »
One night I go the bright idea to install RockBox and so I did. First I installed for the wrong generation of iPod mini, but it said it failed so I tried again with the other generation. When I got it running everything seemed fine, and I was done with a game of sodoku when it suddenly died. It shut of and when I started it I got the battery with a warning triangle icon. It stayed dead the whole day. But later that evening it woke up and worked again, so I tried connecting it to my computer, and Windows wouldn't recognise it. "Searching for drivers for RockBox device". Tried on Vista and XP.

Is there any way to reset the firmware back to the original in this state?

I've renamed your thread because your iPod is not bricked, or even close to it.

Rockbox has not yet fully implemented USB support.  Try putting the player in disk mode before connecting.  Alternately, turn the hold switch on before you plug in the cable, which will start the Apple firmware.

Oh, thanks. What a simple mistake. Should I worry about the crash though?

The crash and the subsequent "warning triangle" symbol sound to me like a dead battery.  I would not lose any sleep.
