AAC audiobooks
« on: December 21, 2007, 04:24:29 PM »
Hi! I have an audiobook in aac (.m4a) format. All of the files (save for the one that is less than one hour long) give me "Codec failure!" when I try to play them. So, how can I fix this or how can I convert them to speex?

Can you check what type of AAC file it is?  Foobar will tell you, not sure about other programs.  Also, it doesn't have DRM does it?

Also, please try searching.  You have been here long enough to know that.  There have been many topics on which AAC files will play, e.g. the very next post to yours: http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=14417.msg108151

No, it is an aac file bought off iTunes that was unlocked with QTFairUse (by the way, all songs unlocked with it as well as one shorter part of the audiobook work).

And, I did search. I haven't found a definitive fix for this or a good program to convert to speex.

I repeat, you need to check what type of AAc file it is.

We've answered *many* times though that longer AAC files don't play, as our AAC codec is imperfect. As to "converting to speex", that's hardly a Rockbox specific question, and is better asked either to Google, or somewhere focused on such things as audio conversion.

OK, thank you Llorean. I thought it was because it was too long, but I needed verification (you were*cough*much more helpful than BigBambi*cough*). OK, I will see if I can find a converter online.

Excuse me?  There are other types of AAC that will not play in addition to overly long ones.  I was trying to check if that was the case.

Yeah, but had you read my posts, you would have discovered that the shortest file (of the same type) played fine. Try reading before diagnosing the problem.

Try reading before diagnosing the problem.

There is absolutley no reason or excuse for being offensive.

You hardly gave stacks of information, and I feel I asked legitimate questions to potentially help.  I'm locking this now as you just seem to want to have a go for no reason, and I certainly shan't bother trying to help you in the future
