YAIF: Yet Another Installation Failed
« on: December 21, 2007, 01:48:58 PM »
Hi there,

My first message in the list, yay! ^^

Well the point is that a friend of mine tried to install an old and wrong firmware (Version: 20061220-0910) in a pretty new 80GB ipod video, and now it hangs badly: the bootloader starts but it stops before loading any firmware or anything. Even worse, neither GNU/Linux box (via kernel messages via 'dmesg' or 'parted' ) nor my MacOS X box don't detect it, and so doesn't on windows.

The only thing we can see on the baby is this:

Quote
Rocbox: boot loader
Version: 20061220-0910
IPOD version: 0xFFFFFFFF
TOSHIBA MK8010GAH

And well, we can't apply the medthod described at http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodManualRestore because there isn't any device (/dev/sdX) detected!

Any advice?

Thanks!

Force a reboot with Menu+Select, then force Apple's disk mode with Select+Play.
