in my iriver h140 with an 80GB hd. can anybody tell

Look for an MK8007GAH drive instead; it has the proper 50-pin connector and will fit perfectly inside the case.

The MK8010GAH has a ZIF connector, so without a ZIF-ATA adaptor, you can't just drop it into the iriver.

Good luck finding an adapter.  :(
Span.com told me via email that no one is producing them. You have to make one yourself. If this fact changes and someone does commercially produce a ZIF to 50 pin (female) adapter please post a link!  :)

I will keep looking too and I'm asking questions from the manufacturers that make zif 1.8-2.5 IDE to see if they would make an adapter. As it stands my Gigabeat is basically full and it would be less expensive to buy several gigabeats than get a large hdd.

nope.  the connections on the hd in the iriver are 50 pin female, also the connction is on the short side of the drive, also it's too high, if you are going for the larger ones.

seems to be the right adapter, but whether there's room in an iriver for one I've no idea

It might be a matter of just properly tucking it into the iriver so it rests on or under the hard drive.

I'd love it if it did fit, but having changed the hard drive (+ battery) in a H140 I can vouch that it is extremely tight in there.
