Rockbox'd Ipod (5.5g) and Alpine HU
« on: December 21, 2007, 05:45:03 AM »
ive read through the various posts on the subject but none have answered my question fully.  using an ipod with rockbox on it, can i use the ipod connection for a typical alpine head unit which connects using the data port and play music?  im not concerned with using the head unit to scroll through the library, i just want to know if using the data port connection will yield sound.  it has been tested by many folks on various car audio forums that the sound one gets from the aux input using the headphone jack and the data port are very different with the data port coming out on top with far less distortion.

IIRC there was such a plugin for the old Archos players, but not for the Ipods...

Accessories that require communication with the iPod to work are not supported.  Rockbox does supply signal to the line out in the dock connector if that's all you need.

This sounds more like a question you should be asking of your Alpine supplier - not us.

well the adaptor i picked up works.  i didnt get the alpine ainet/ipod chord, i picked up a piece that plugs into the data port that has a mini headphone input on the other end.  works on the alpine just fine.  no more volume on the ipod though, as it is now just using te line-out on the ipod, so all volume and processor controls are handled on the head unit itself.  im assuming that the ainet/ipod cable for the alpine is essentially the same except it also has the ability to communicate betwix'd the ipod and the HU itself.  so using that chord may also work, youd just lose the ability to see whats playing and controlling the ipod via the HU.
