Upgraded Hard Disk 80g Ipod Video

(1/2) > >>

mperry:
I'm considering getting an upgrade to my ipod video and going up to a "just announced" 120g drive at a webshop.  This will allow me hopefully to continue using rockbox, etc and not have to deal with some of the issues I've been reading about regarding the "classic".  And it should last me another year or two.  By that time, I figure there will be media player implants that we can all get :)

Hopefully there are no issues with rockboxing an upgraded hard disk drive in a supported 80g video ipod?

I upgraded my 60GB to 100GB with no issues.

The only possible issue seems to be if you are going to a drive larger than 137GB (IIRC), you have to compile your own Rockbox build with an option turned on in order to access all of the space.

There are some good videos on taking apart the iPod over here:

It's pretty easy overall, you just have to be careful not to rip any of the thin cables.

Llorean:
The 137 issue is only relevant to Archoses I think.

Chronon:
I thought that accessing the extra space was problematic on the Archoses, but that all targets need an option enabled during compilation to allow Rockbox to use LBA48.  That's the impression I get from reading the BigDisk wiki page.

I really would like this question to be answered as I am wondering the same thing.
