playlists 5.5 ipod
« on: December 18, 2007, 09:10:18 AM »
Hi
firstly let me say a big thank you to everyone here for this software it really is quite brilliant.

I had a rio karma and was upset when it died. Having liked the ipods design but hated their lack of control (i.e. lack of crossfade, files, drop and drop etc) I bought a 60 gB ipod with the express aim of installing rockbox and after a few days to find my way round, am now sing its praises to any and everyone who listen!

My only question is after reading the manual and searching the forums I can't seem to work out how to find a saved dynamic playlist. They appear in on my pc when its connected and I can create and save new play lists but no matter how I try, I can create, name and save a dynamic list but can't for the life of me find it again.
Apologies if I'm missing something really obvious here

Thanks!

Check your "Show files" setting under General Settings --> File View --> Show Files.  How is it set?

have tried that! have set it on every setting; playlists, music, all & supported but it doesn't make any difference.

thanks for your help

By the way, I updated the build to today but am changing it back since its just crashed twice, the back light is not coming on (r15952) and my PC is having trouble recognising it, is there somewhere I should be feeding this back? sorry that was my fault, the backlight setting had changed and my pc was the problem!

You say a "dynamic" playlist - is this one you've created in iTunes ?

no that was just the name I thought referred to lists created 'on-the-fly'. Haven't used i-tunes at all. Actually when I have it on show all files I can see dynamic listed there and there is one for each play list made this way. However I can't see the name of each play list and they're certainly not in the playlist catalog. So maybe I'm not naming them correctly? When I try to name it  the cursor appears at the end of the file name i.e. /dynamic.m3u8 not at the being. However moving the cursor to the being of the path name stops it from saving it so have put the name at the end and then can't find it afterways of course!

What path are you saving them to, then? Give an example of what you've got typed in with the virtual keyboard.

/dynamic.m3u8A  or /dynamic.m3u8B

When I look on my pc window the file name is given just as dynamic  and the file is sitting on the root directory and not in any folders

Part of the problem is that you're changing the extension. You need to leave it .m3u8, not change it to .m3u8B or .m3u8B. You're making the files unrecognizable as playlists, Rockbox thinks they're just normal files, not in a type it can use.

just realised that too! The cursor appearing at the end of the file name through me. If I delete the word dynamic and replace it with a playlist name then I can find it in the root directory. Is this right? I know I can then cut and paste it into the playlist folder but is there an easier way?

Thanks for you help by the way.

If you know you want to save the playlist to that location then you can choose "Add to New Playlist" from File Browser > Context Menu > Playlist Catalog.

Alternatively, you can save the current playlist and specify the /Playlists/ directory as the save location.
